Renewals & Modifications
Prórrogas, changes of permit type, and the path to long-term residence — the ongoing paperwork that keeps a status valid long after the original visa was approved. Most relocation providers disappear after the first card; this is where we stay engaged.
Who this is for
Existing residents renewing an authorization approaching expiry, changing from one permit type to another as their situation changes, or applying for long-term (permanent) residency after five years.
Renewals (prórrogas)
Each visa type has its own renewal window and evidence requirements, generally filed in the months before expiry, confirming the original conditions — income, employment or business activity — still hold.
Changes of permit type
Life circumstances change — a freelancer gets hired locally, a Non-Lucrative resident starts a business, a student graduates into employment. We handle the "modificación" filing that converts one authorization into another without forcing a full restart.
Long-term residence
After five continuous years of lawful residence, most residents qualify for long-term (permanent) residency, which removes the periodic renewal requirement and most of the income or activity conditions tied to the original visa.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if my renewal is filed late?
Spanish law provides a grace period, but filing late risks a gap in legal status and complicates future citizenship timelines — we track renewal windows for every ongoing client well ahead of expiry.
Can I change permit type without leaving Spain?
In most cases yes — the modification is filed from within Spain without requiring a new consular application.
Does long-term residency mean I no longer need to renew anything?
It removes the periodic condition-based renewal, though the physical card itself still needs periodic replacement like any ID document.
What happens next
We track every ongoing client's renewal windows proactively rather than waiting for a deadline to prompt the filing, and flag modification opportunities as your situation changes.
